Data migration · demo project, fictional brand
Old Rails blog to WordPress and Squarespace
Blog posts exported from a Rails database into a WordPress import file, and subscribers into a clean CSV.
The problem
Moving an old custom blog usually loses dates, slugs or images. This export keeps them and proves it with a real import.
What I built
- WordPress import file (WXR) with content in CDATA, image tags untouched, titles, slugs, local and GMT dates.
- Subscriber CSV: lower-cased, de-duplicated, unsubscribed people left out, with a count report.
- Works on a copy of the database, never on the live server.
How it was tested
- 8 of 8 tests on the export rules.
- Real import into a fresh WordPress with the official importer: 6 of 6 posts identical to the database (title, slug, date, body, images, status).
